MACHINE WAKER

VR Experience for HTC Vive

PROJECT INFO

In MACHINE WAKER you revive a mysterious, dead machine-system. Seat the levers into their sockets in order to work on the machines. Collect the missing pieces with the use of your telescopic arms and repair the mechanisms to awake the machines. If you manage to collect all batteries you will be able to power the giant clock!

 

MACHINE WAKER was my 5th semester project at the Game Design program at HTW Berlin.

MY TASKS

Game Design | Sound Design | Visual Development | Textures & Materials

 

I was heavily involved in creating the underlying system mechanics and virtual space layout. I had the chance to explore new innovative ways of interacting with the virtual space out of the actual real play-area in VR.

 

Also, together with teammate David Witzgall, I explored new techniques of creating level design mockups for VR-applications using Google Tiltbrush and analogue prototyping.

 

Together with David I developed an artstyle and visual concept. I then created most of the textures by painting them digitally by hand.

I created all of the materials in Unreal Engine 4 with the main focus being playability on low end hardware and high performance and framerates for the VR-Headsets.

 

An additional task was creating all the sounds for this magical experience.

I recorded percussive and mechanical sounds in a soon to be demolished house and heavily processed them with different audio programs to create a full set of sounds.
